The list as presented suggests that all three items are equal choices.

Apples;
Bananas; or
Cucumbers

Does this mean you have to get apples, and then choose getting either bananas or cucumbers? Or does it mean you have to get apples and you have the option of getting bananas and/or cucumbers? A is mandatory; what about B and C?

A comma should follow “Massachusetts” in your example sentence.

For example:
Sam went to Dallas, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Flint, Michigan; and Athol, Massachusetts to buy a pair of sneakers.
What punctuation mark should follow Massachusetts?
